This is the longest running promotion the Black Flower has ever had, and it has turned into a bit of a Raleigh-Institution. The core band sets up their stuff, rocks out a couple songs, then throws out the challenge: "Who wants to come play?" Some of the regulars, though chomping at the bit to get on stage, lie in wait to see what kind of competition or victims strut to the stage. A bombshell of a girl visiting from Manhattan rocks out "Black Velvet" right before the dorkiest white guy in Raleigh does a better rendition of "Funky Cold Medina" than the original artist. But next comes a guy who talked a big game, but couldn't deliver "Simple Man..." And he's promptly booed off the stage. $4 Jack Daniel's and hundred proof SoCo don't exactly lead to diplomacy where musicians are concerned. So come out. Drink up. Rock out. Swap mics and guitars. Convince the drummer you're good enough to sit in his throne... And convince Raleigh your band is good enough for the Flower stage. Welcome to Wednesday. Oh yeah...
